Experienced guidance for residential property claims

Problem

When a property loss occurs, homeowners are suddenly navigating an unfamiliar claims process while trying to restore normal life at home. Many are unsure who to trust for guidance or how early repair decisions may affect the final outcome.

Insurance scopes are often written to policy language rather than real construction conditions. Critical items are missed or under scoped, leaving homeowners without clear direction and facing delays, uncertainty, and unexpected costs during an already stressful time.

The right guidance early makes all the difference.

3 Common Mistakes When Dealing With Insurance Claims

  • #1: Filing a claim without knowing if the damage is even covered. This can raise premiums for no reason.

  • #2: Accepting the adjuster’s first estimate. It is usually missing items and rarely reflects the true cost to restore the home.

  • #3: Not documenting the damage. Without photos, notes, and measurements, the claim becomes easy for the carrier to limit.

Restoration Claims Process

  • Take photos, videos, and write a simple recap of what happened. Protect the home from any further damage.

  • File the claim with your insurance company. You will receive a claim number and an adjuster will be assigned.

  • Meet with the adjuster during the inspection. Walk them through the affected areas and keep the information clear and factual.

  • Receive your comprehensive estimate from ReconSmart Solutions. We create a clean, irrefutable scope in Xactimate that supports the entire claim. We follow industry standards, including IICRC aligned practices, to help you understand damage and move your claim forward with clarity.

  • Your insurance company and assigned adjuster review the estimate. They may ask additional questions to ultimately provide their own version. We guide you through aligning everything so the collaboration is complete.

  • Scope approval. Once both sides agree on materials, quantities, and pricing, the carrier issues the initial payment and repair scope based on your policy.

  • A major milestone achieved and the rebuild process starts. If new damage is found or changes are needed, we help support any required supplements.

  • Once the project is finished, the contractor submits final documentation (i.e. Certification of Completion). Your carrier releases any remaining depreciation owed to you.
